When I Came Home: A Homeless Veteran’s Story
To those people who still believe that the government takes care of soldiers and their families, filmmaker Dan Lohaus brings a heartbreaking and powerful story of veterans living on the streets. The project began as a look at homeless Vietnam veterans, but Lohaus quickly realized the stunning parallels between Vietnam and Iraq. When I Came Home features the story of homeless veteran Herold Noel, who served in Iraq and returned home to find no support system in place for him and his family. He spent eight months living in his car in Brooklyn and suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Noel was just one of an estimated 275,000 homeless American veterans. Although he has now received assistance, there are countless other veterans out there who have no resources and no one to turn to.
