Mike Huckabee has done the nearly-impossible this year. He has stuck with his presidential bid despite being the underdog. He has stubbornly refused to bow out even as the best and brightest Republicans burned out early in the race. Huckabee’s determination to stay in even when his bid looks like an exercise in futility has raised more than a few surprised eyebrows.

In fact, it seemed that Huckabee must have a plan since it didn’t seem possible for him to win the delegates he would need to get the GOP nomination. His support base is solid and unchangeable, although not nearly high enough in numbers to make a difference. So what is Huckabee’s plan?

As it turns out, Huckabee does have a plot. He no longer harbors beliefs that he is going to win the primaries; his goal now is to throw the balance out of McCain’s favor just long enough to deny McCain a victory in the primaries and force the GOP nominee to be chosen at the Republican National Convention in September. He revealed this all during a radio interview on Friday.

His reasoning is that if the RNC delegates choose the candidate, they will choose the most conservative - a contest in which he easily beats McCain.

It all comes down now to Texas and Ohio. If Huckabee is able to continue his streak of unexpected wins and surprising support, he may just get his wish.
