Still Believe McCain will Make a Suitable President?

mccain

For those of you who, despite the evidence to the contrary, remain convinced that John McCain and his comb-over should be headed for the White House, please consider the issue of McCain’s multiple mistaken references over the last several days to Iran training al-Qaeda fighters.

For a man who has so many opinions on America’s involvement in the Middle East, you would think that it would behoove John McCain to learn which country is on which side of the conflict. Al-Qaeda is a Sunni group, but Iran is a Shiite country - Iran does not, in fact, train al-Qaeda fighters.

McCain’s camp has been attempting damage control, but what more can you say? One slip is forgivable. Two slips are questionable. But making the same mistake three times within a two-day period? Either McCain doesn’t really care about getting the facts right, or these “senior moments” are increasing in frequency.

Is Astrology More Accurate than Political Polling?

 astrology

Are you sick of following the news to figure out who is winning in the Democratic race?  Forget fair and balanced media coverage and rely on the mystical arts instead!  The Huffington Post has a unique way of reminding us that political polls are often no better a prediction of outcomes than, say, horoscopes.  Huffpollstrology keeps you up to date on the candidates’ horoscopes, online political gambling odds, weather reports, and poll results.  Their reasoning?  Political polls are decreasingly accurate as fewer respondents participate and more people identify themselves as “undecided.”  The scariest part about Huffpollstrology is that sometimes the horoscopes seem a heck of a lot more accurate than the polls.

Florida: Still the Center of Political Snafus

vote smart

The hilarious debacle that is the Florida primaries continues this week, with lawmakers meeting to work up a preliminary plan to conduct a make-up primary.  This is necessary because Florida thought it would be a great idea to hold their primaries before the agreed-upon dates, regardless of the fact that they were told the votes would not count.

Florida Democrats are now scrambling to come up with a solution to the problems that they caused, and this week they struck up a proposal for a plan that may involve mail-in ballots, outsourcing the election responsibilities, or holding a new primary with just 50 polling places rather than the standard several thousand polling places.  Different combinations of these methods have also been proposed and have received a mostly negative reception.

Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd may have had it right when he suggested that the delegates from both states be divided down the middle, with half going to each candidate.  After all, the governors of both states were warned and given 30 days to change their primary dates.  That they decided to go ahead with the early votes indicates that neither state was worried about disenfranchising voters back in January - why should they be rewarded for their bad behavior by getting the chance to re-do the very vote they willingly ruined?

10 of the Most Shocking American Political Sex Scandals

The last two decades have brought us so many political sex scandals that we might be tempted to think they’re a new thing. However, looking back over the history of this great nation, you’ll see that political sex scandals have been embarrassing politicians and causing a stir since the very beginning. Here are just a few of the most interesting, the most memorable, and the most bizarre political sex scandals in American history.

thurmond
1. Strom Thurmond: One of the most vocal advocates of segregation in America was famous for his racist views and outspoken manner of expressing them. It was shockingly revealed shortly after Thurmond’s death in 2003 that he had fathered a child with an African-American maid when the maid, Carrie Butler, was just 15. The subject of consent has been debated ever since then, with the question being raised as to whether the encounter was consentual or amounted to rape.

In a Tight Race, Will a Democratic Do-Over Change the Outcome?

democrat

Early this year, Michigan and Florida decided to depart from rules which dictate that presidential primaries may not be held before February 5th - rules which both states had previously agreed to. While the GOP decided to cut each state’s delegates in half rather than denying them any delegates, the DNC warned that they would strip both Michigan and Florida of all of their delegates Both states held their primaries knowing that their votes would not be counted, and as a result many voters simply skipped it.
